Britain 2018 - The Whirlwind

From April 11-18, I spent a journey going solo with my backpack, IPhone and carry-on over to Britain for a week long journey across the south of Britain.

On May 12, I arrived in London in the morning, immediately I took a train from London to Dover to drop off my luggage and then return to Canterbury for the day.

I saw much in Canterbury:

Saw where Becket was martyed

This is Becket's shrine, or where it was located before Henry VIII destroyed it.

Evensong, anyone?

I told my mom we need one of these!!

After returning to Dover for the night, I woke up the next morning and walked right up the hill towards those White Cliffs:

Lunch anyone?!

I left Dover to head to Southampton, primarily to watch the Chelsea FC (my favorite soccer team) face the Saints.

Blues Wins!

Separation in the name of peace!

So after traveling to Southampton, feeling lovely and cheerful after a Chelsea FC win.  On Sunday morning I took the train up to London to head to church at the Metropolitan Tabernacle, the church where Spurgeon preached and where Dr. Peter Masters has led since 1970.  He was 30 years old at the time, sounds familiar...

Although Dr. Masters did not preach this Sunday, I had a lovely time there. A Chinese man, Kenny, befriended me after morning service and hosted me throughout the day, telling me much about the ministry.  He leads a bus route for their Sunday School, which has 300-400 kids each week. Service was about 900, with biblical preaching.

After evening service, I started my journey west, first towards Reading to spend the night. The next morning I traveled to Bath.

In Bath, I saw quite a bit.  Most notably Stonehenge and the Roman Baths.

For the last leg of my trip, I left Bath in the afternoon to Plymouth.

It was a lovely 17 hour period.

Toffee Pudding, Anyone?

Where the world was really made new.

Well, to end the trip, I returned to London to make a short trip into town and prep for the journey back home.

The $20 Sundae!

Well, I had a lovely time in Britain.  I always enjoy traveling there. So much history, so much culture and yes, the folks have great accents!  Kenny from London told me to let him know when I'm back in town for he offered me lodging.  I may want to take him up on that! :D
